Recode is reporting that Amazon’s Echo Show has been sold to a Chinese startup called WifiX.

Recode has learned the deal, which will see Echo Show become the sole channel for the Wifix app, will be finalized on April 18.

Amazon has been making moves to compete with the Echo Show for tech news since its launch in 2018, with the company launching a news channel for its Echo device called Echo News in March.

Wifi is a subsidiary of Alibaba Group Holding Ltd.

The Echo Show and Echo News have long been Amazon’s primary news sources, but Wifi was the company’s first attempt at bringing news to a platform other than Apple News.

Wifis app is currently available in the Apple App Store, but Amazon is expected to add it to its app store soon.

WifiX, which has already built its own news channel, is also making the Echo Channel app available for Android and iOS devices.

Recodes sources say Wifi has been able to sell an estimated 200 million Echo devices to date.
